Vienna chose Arda
Arda Ataoğuz, who graduated from Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Law this year, has been accepted for a master's degree at the University of Vienna, which is considered one of the best universities in the world with its 659-year history. Ataoğuz, who managed to be among the few students in the world, will receive education in the field of ‘European and international trade law’ in Vienna, where he will stay for one year. Aiming to continue his career in international law, Ataoğuz said, “I want to make the best use of this opportunity that I gained thanks to my University and lay strong foundations for my career.”
In addition to his success in his classes, the ‘Willem C. Vis Moot’ mock trial competition, which he participated in as part of the ‘Moot Court’ course and which was also hosted in Vienna, was decisive in Arda Ataoğuz’s acceptance for a master's degree. Ataoğuz, who attracted attention with his proficiency in English, knowledge, expression, and oral defense skills, opened the doors of Vienna for himself with his performance in this competition.
I FOUND THE OPPORTUNITY TO PROVE MYSELF
Stating that he was very happy and excited to have the opportunity to develop himself by receiving education on an international level, Ataoğuz said, “Becoming a good lawyer has been my biggest goal since high school. I worked hard, put in a lot of effort, and finally managed to graduate. Additionally, I really wanted to continue my education abroad with a master's degree. The University of Vienna was one of the universities I aimed for. I previously represented our University in the Willem C. Vis Moot, which is considered the most prestigious mock trial competition in the international field. I competed with students from the most respected law faculties in the world. All the expenses of this competition were also covered by our University. Thanks to this competition, I expanded my network and laid the foundation for my career goals. I found the opportunity to demonstrate my foreign language skills, legal knowledge, and personal skills, to prove myself. This was very influential in my acceptance to the University of Vienna. I turned the opportunities provided by my faculty to my advantage.”
I CARE A LOT
Emphasizing that his mother is a teacher and his father is an engineer, and that both of them did a master's degree, Ataoğuz noted that he is the only lawyer in the family. Ataoğuz said, “I do not want to use definitive expressions for my future. However, I wish to progress in the field of international law. That's why I care a lot about receiving education in Vienna. With my master's degree, all members of our nuclear family will have master's degrees. I thank my family and all my professors who supported me in this process. I will work very hard to represent my country in the best way and not to disappoint those who trust me.”
I BELIEVE HE WILL DO HIS BEST
Congratulating Arda, Prof. Dr. Sevilay Uzunallı, Dean of the IUE Faculty of Law said, “I wholeheartedly believe that Arda will be successful and do his best in Vienna, just as he did at our University. As a faculty, we work to train Turkey's best lawyers. With our academic staff and educational content, we have always been ambitious and successful. However, we know that education is not just about theoretical knowledge. While providing our students with the best knowledge, we also take steps to illuminate their career paths and expand their networks. Arda's story is a very good example of this. It makes us very happy that the strong international cooperation we provide as a faculty took Arda to Vienna. By the way, I would like to point out that the ‘Moot International Commercial Arbitration’ course is only offered at our University in the Aegean Region. We trust Arda a lot and hope that he will achieve his goals as a successful lawyer.”
