Switzerland Student Exchange Program

Swiss-European Mobility Programme (SEMP) is an exchange program implemented by the Swiss government to maintain student exchange activities between Erasmus+ Program countries and Switzerland. This program offers students the opportunity to participate in study mobility in Switzerland for one or two academic terms.
Within the framework of the agreement signed between Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, and Lucerne University of Applied Sciences only 1 student from the Industrial Design Undergraduate program can benefit from the mobility with a grant. The student quota for this agreement is annual. The Mobility grant is provided by Swiss government.
Who can apply?
- 3rd and 4th-year students who enrolled in Industrial Design (Design Management and Product Design) undergraduate program having a minimum of 2.20/4.00 CGPA,
IMPORTANT: It is expected primarily from the students studying in the Industrial Design Department who will be in their 4th year during the fall semester to participate in the mobility program under SEMP at the partner institution. Since applications open one semester before the mobility period, 3rd-year Industrial Design students currently studying in the spring semester can apply to study at the partner institution during their 4th-year fall semester.
If the quota is not used by fourth-year students, students of the Industrial Design Department who are currently in the first semester of their third year may apply for the spring semester applications to spend the second semester of their third year at the partner institution.
Students who wish to benefit from the mobility program must upload their applications to the application system available at https://apply.ieu.edu.tr/international/semp by March 3, 2025, at 17:00.
Who cannot apply?
- 1st and 2nd-year undergraduate students
- Students who freeze registration
Application Evaluation Criteria
The evaluation criteria and weighted scores to be used in evaluating the mobility applications are given below:

Matters to be Considered Before Application:
- The number of students who benefit from the mobility was determined according to the agreement signed between the Izmir University of Economics and Lucerne University of Applied Science.
- The selection of the student participating in the program will be determined according to Application Score which is calculated considering the Application Evaluation Criteria.
- Students studying in double major can apply for mobility for only one major in the same application period.
- Students who want to benefit from SEMP mobility are obliged to take at least 30 ECTS credits in a semester. Depending on the academic program of the partner university abroad, the courses that can be taken in a semester can be a maximum of 33 ECTS and a minimum of 27 ECTS.
- Students studying abroad within the scope of the Erasmus+ program pay the tuition fees for that semester to IUE according to the dates specified in the academic calendar.
- The students who will benefit from the SEMP, should check the academic calendar of the universities which they wish to choose. The students should make their choices in a way that will not affect the period they will continue at IUE.
- Students bear all responsibility for not being able to register for courses at IUE after returning from the partner universities, exceeding the period of absence from classes, and affecting their academic success as a result of the academic calendar of IUE and the partner university being incompatible.
- It is the student’s responsibility to follow the abroad exit procedures, accommodation, passport, and visa application procedures.
- Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts will request a portfolio from the selected students during his/her application. Partner University reserves the right to reject students according to his/her portfolio and other application documents submitted by the student.
- In order to complete the application process at IUE, applicants must prepare a portfolio and submit it via email to the Industrial Design Department Erasmus Coordinator, Dr. Elif Kocabıyık. Once the portfolio evaluation is completed, the Portfolio Evaluation Form, signed by the relevant academics, must be uploaded to the system along with the other application documents.
